Solano County could move to "orange" tier next week, health officer says

The county’s top public health official feels confident that Solano County will soon be allowed to move into the less-restrictive “orange” tier as coronavirus-related infections and hospitalizations remain low throughout the region.
Solano County is one of eight counties in California to still lie within the “red” restriction tier under the state’s “Blueprint for a Safer Economy,” which imposes certain limitations on residents and businesses in order to combat the novel coronavirus COVID-19.
In an interview with the Daily Republic newspaper, Solano Counth Public Health Officer Dr. Bela Matyas said he expects the state to approve Solano County’s move into the orange restriction tier by next week.
If that happens, it would allow indoor retailers to lift their capacity restrictions, though social distancing and face masks would still be required. Churches, restaurants and movie theaters would be allowed to increase their indoor capacity from 25 percent to 50 percent, while gyms and fitness centers would be allowed to increase their indoor capacity from 10 percent to 25 percent.
Bars that do not offer meal service would be allowed to re-open, though they would be limited to outdoor operations only.
If Dr. Matyas’ prediction comes true, the state would give Solano County the green light to enter the orange tier with two weeks to go before state officials plan to scrap much of its blueprint altogether. The color-coded system is expected to dissolve after June 15, when the state gives its official nod toward widespread business re-openings.
The state’s re-opening plans were announced earlier this month after health officials noted an increase in vaccinations and a decrease in infection and hospitalization rates.
