Two California Highway Patrol officers are being hailed as heroes after saving the life of a 7-year-old boy earlier this week.
On Tuesday, CHP officers Matthew Barawed and Scott Hardman were near the Dixon Fruit Market on Batavia Road when they saw a speeding car stop in front of their patrol vehicle.
A distraught mother emerged from the car and rushed over to the officers with her unconscious 7-year-old son in her arms. The boy was not breathing, had no pulse and was turning blue, according to the CHP.
“Officer Hardman began CPR with the assistance of Officer Barawed,” the CHP said in a statement. “The officers performed CPR until the arrival of emergency medical personnel.”
While performing CPR, a pulse was recovered and the child began breathing on his own. An ambulance arrived and took the child to the Kaiser Permanente hospital in Vacaville, where he continues to recover.
The child and the mother were not identified as of Thursday evening.
