Wildfire smoke will continue to linger in parts of Solano County on Saturday, according to weather forecasters.
The smoke is drifting into the region from several wildfires burning in northern parts of the state, creating hazardous air quality for affected residents.
In a forecast discussion published by the National Weather Service in Sacramento, forecasters said smoke has the potential to impact sensitive groups like children and the elderly, and those in areas with smoke in the atmosphere should limit their outdoor activities when possible.
The Yolo-Solano Air Quality Management District says the air quality in Solano County will be moderate, with smoke particles present in the air through the middle of Saturday.
By Sunday, forecasters say wind will start to blow out of the southwest, which is expected to help push the smoke out of the region toward the California-Nevada border.
“A stronger Delta breeze later in the afternoon [on Saturday] and tonight will help clear the surface level smoke as well,” a forecaster with the National Weather Service’s Sacramento office said. “By Sunday, conditions should be greatly improved over the interior.”
A ridge of high pressure will drive temperatures up starting next week, with the thermometer pushed to 100 degrees in parts of the Sacramento valley by Tuesday.
The hot weather is expected to linger through the middle of the month, with temperatures at or over 100 degrees in Dixon, Vacaville and Rio Vista.
