A small brush fire that started in Vacaville briefly crossed onto the grounds of the nearby state prison on Wednesday.
The fire was reported just after 7 p.m. along the 1600 block of California Drive. A neighbor reported a resident was lighting off fireworks during a wind event, and the remnants of the fireworks ignited a small blaze in some brush.
Vacaville fire crews quickly knocked down the blaze, but not before a portion of it crossed onto the grounds of the nearby California State Prison.
A firefighting team from the prison battled back the flames on their side, and the fire was contained by 7:30 p.m.
