Several Dixon employees infected with COVID-19
At least two City of Dixon employees were infected with the novel coronavirus COVID-19 last month, according to statements posted on the city’s social media account.
On November 20, city officials said an employees of the transit received a positive COVID-19 diagnosis. Following the diagnosis, officials put in place several precautions under the city’s “COVID-19 Workplace Protection Policy,” which included contact tracing, a spokesperson said.
The infection prompted city transit officials to suspend its Ready-Ride program, which provided door-to-door shuttle service within Dixon, officials said. The suspension in service lasted through November 30.
Four days later, a second city employee tested positive for COVID-19, Dixon officials said. That employee worked within the city’s fire department. Officials carried out the same response following the second infection as they had the first, they said.
The Dixon Fire Department was still able to operate as needed and resources were available for emergencies, city officials assured the public in a social media post.
Officials declined to provide specific information about the people infected, including their employed positions, citing “reasons of privacy and confidentiality.” Information was provided to both affected city employees regarding benefits and support options as they recovered from the virus, a city spokesperson said.
Dixon’s dual cases followed similar infections reported in other cities involving public safety workers. In November, an employee with the Benicia Police Department and two firefighters with in Rio Vista were also afflicted with the virus.
