A three-month-old infant who was kidnapped in broad daylight has been located safe, and three people are under arrest in connection with the incident.
The development was announced by the San Jose Police Department on Tuesday less than a day after 3-month-old Brandon Alexis Cuellar was abducted from his home.
On Monday, police said the infant was taken while his grandmother was unloading groceries. Images posted to social media showed an unknown individual walking away from Cuellar’s home while carrying the infant in a blanket-draped car seat.
The abduction spawned a statewide search for the baby, though police never issued an Amber Alert because they were unsure if a vehicle was used in the kidnapping.
Early Tuesday morning, police said a woman of interest was detained in connection with the case. Police said the woman, who has not been identified by name, was with the infant’s grandmother prior to the abduction.
The woman was later arrested along with two others who have yet to be identified. Police said additional information about the case would be released on Tuesday.
Investigators say the abduction was “something premeditated [and] planned,” according to KPIX-TV (Channel 5), and have speculated that the kidnapping may have stemmed from a family dispute.
The infant is now being evaluated at a local hospital.
San Jose police were assisted by the California Highway Patrol and the Federal Bureau of Investigation during the search for the infant.
