A 62-year-old woman from Sacramento died on Christmas Day after being involved in a crash along I-80 near Fairfield, the California Highway Patrol said on Monday.
Jeanne Dea passed away at a local hospital from injuries sustained in the crash, officials said.
Officials say the incident began when a black Honda Civic entered east-bound Interstate 80 from Travis Boulevard around 11:30 p.m. The vehicle slammed into a concrete wall and stopped in the number one, or “fast,” lane of the freeway.
The road was wet at the time, which may have contributed to the crash, officials said.
A short time later, a Lexus collided with the Honda Civic. Three people were inside the Lexus, including Dea, who was a passenger in the rear of the vehicle. Three other cars were also involved in crashes around the area, CHP officials said.
The CHP continues to investigate the crash.
