Animal control officers have captured a runaway emu that was spotted several times in Fairfield.
The emu was first spotted running along the 4600 block of Suisun Valley Road.
A responding animal control officer with the Solano County Sheriff’s Office attempted to make contact with the emu, but the wily animal took off.
A short pursuit ensued, but the animal control officer was unable to catch up to the emu — “If you didn’t know, emus are fast!” a spokesperson said — and the agency turned to the public for assistance.
That assistance paid off early Wednesday morning when sheriff’s officials began receiving reports that the emu had returned to Suisun Valley Road. This time, an animal control officer was able to capture the emu, and it was safely reunited with its owner.
The sheriff’s department identified the emu only by its alias, “Limu.”
