The Rio Vista Fire Department says it will soon begin adding more staff to its firehouse after data revealed a need to add more bodies during shifts.
Later this year, the agency will have a minimum of five people on staff, an increase from three personnel during regular shifts.
Though the staffing increase may appear marginal compared to other Solano County cities, fire officials in Rio Vista said the increase was a milestone for their department. Its firefighters are often called on to respond to fires not only in Rio Vista but also in surrounding, rural parts of Solano County and neighboring Sacramento County.
“These increases will positively impact public safety and the health and safety of our firefighters…[and] will allow us to provide mutual aid to our county partners while maintaining station coverage in Rio Vista,” a fire department spokesperson said.
The agency said the increase was based on an analysis of data going back several years and was capable thanks to the support of the city council, the city manager and the community by large.
“Because we are a small agency, we can be flexible with how we approach these increases, and we will ensure our responses are cost-effective and appropriate for incidents,” the agency spokesperson promised.
