A Red Flag Warning officially took effect Thursday morning, with forecasters saying high wind and low humidity will create dangerous wildfire conditions in the region.
In Solano County, the wind is already starting to increase, with Vallejo recording sustained wind at 15 miles per hour, according to weather conditions reviewed by Solano NewsNet.
In other parts of the region, the wind was more modest, with observed wind around 5 miles per hour as of 2 p.m.
Forecasters say the wind is expected to increase between late Thursday evening and early Friday morning, with sustained wind up to 25 miles per hour throughout Solano County and gusts up to 50 miles per hour possible.
It will continue to be gusty from the early morning hours into Friday afternoon, according to forecast models reviewed by Solano NewsNet. During this time period, wildfires that start will likely spread quickly due to wind gusts combined with low humidity and dry conditions.
Forecasters say wildfire conditions will remain in place through the weekend, but they will not be as critical as the ones experienced during the Red Flag Warning period, which ends Friday at 8 p.m. But the high wind will return by Sunday evening, with forecasters keeping an eye on weather models in anticipation of a possible Fire Weather Watch that could be issued by the end of the weekend.
