The National Weather Service in Sacramento has issued a Red Flag Warning for all of Solano County, starting on Monday.
The weather alert was published by forecasters on Sunday in anticipation of gusty wind, low humidity levels and high temperatures across the Sacramento Valley.
The Red Flag Warning period starts Monday at 11 a.m. and lasts until Wednesday at 11 a.m. During the warning period, wind gusts up to 35 miles per hour are possible in the western part of the Sacramento Valley, including Solano County. Locally, wind gusts may be even higher, forecasters said.
The strongest wind gusts will take place from late Monday evening through the day on Tuesday, forecasters warned. During the Red Flag Warning, any wildfires that ignite have the potential to spread quickly and far.
Last month, Solano NewsNet reported on an increased chance of wildfires in May and June based on drought evaluations and forecast models published by the National Interagency Fire Center.
Already in May, several vegetation fires have sparked in Suisun City, Fairfield and Vallejo. On Saturday, a 135-acre wildfire triggered evacuation orders and warnings in the Pleasants Valley area of rural Vacaville.
