The National Weather Service in Sacramento has issued a Red Flag Warning for portions of northern Solano County.
The warning period begins Tuesday at 5 p.m. and lasts until Wednesday evening, according to a bulletin published by the forecast office.
Gusty wind up to 35 miles per hour combined with low humidity at around 10 percent and hot temperatures will lead to conditions that could help wildfires start quickly and spread rapidly, meteorologists said.
The conditions will be most dire in rural Vacaville, rural Winters and Dixon, all of which are covered by the weather warning.
"Gusty north to northeast winds will develop Tuesday evening across much of the Sacramento Valley and surrounding terrain and will continue through Wednesday," a meteorologist with the National Weather Service wrote in a bulletin on Tuesday. "These winds, combined with low humidity and extremely dry fuels, will lead to critical fire weather conditions."
The weather alert comes after the Pacific Gas & Electric Company (PG&E) warned it may have to shut off electrical power to parts of Solano County on Tuesday as part of a precautionary planned safety power shutoff (PSPS).
A map initially published by PG&E showed affected PSPS areas in Solano County were along Highway 128 near Putah Creek Road in rural Solano County near the city of Winters.
As of Monday evening, the PSPS map did not show Solano County in its coverage area, but an alert published by the utility still said more than 70 electrical customers in the county were at risk of losing their power due to adverse weather.
