Forecasters with the National Weather Service in Sacramento have issued a Red Flag Warning for north Solano County, including Vacaville and Dixon.
The warning is an upgrade to a Fire Weather Watch that was issued over the weekend for anticipated fire weather conditions.
Meteorologists with the weather agency say a combination of gusty wind, low humidity and seasonably warm temperatures will result in elevated fire danger in affected regions.
“A Red Flag Warning means that critical fire weather conditions are either occurring now or will shortly,” the weather office said. “Bursts of gusty offshore winds and dry conditions will develop tonight and carry into the next several days.”
Those weather conditions combined with dry brush and other fuel “will result in an increased risk of new wildfire starts and rapid wildfire spread,” forecasters said.
The Red Flag Warning starts Monday evening at 11 p.m. and lasts through Wednesday morning. Areas south of the Red Flag Warning remain under a Fire Weather Watch, including Fairfield, Rio Vista, Vallejo and Benicia.
Several fires have accompanied similar weather warnings in recent weeks. Last week, at least four fires started during severe weather conditions, including a 90-acre grass fire that jumped Interstate 80 near Midway Road in rural Dixon on Friday and a three-alarm brush fire that burned along Vine Street in Vacaville on Saturday.
