A critical transportation link between Rio Vista and Ryer Island is now operational again.
On Wednesday, officials with the California Department of Transportation (CalTrans) said the Real McCoy Ferry, also known as Real McCoy II, is running once again after it was taken out of service for engine upgrades.
A CalTrans spokesperson said the upgrades were needed so the boat could meet new air emissions requirements. While the ferry was out of service, motorists were encouraged to use the State Route 84 Miners Slough Bridge to travel between Rio Vista and Ryer Island, which remains an option for motorists who do not want to travel by ferry.
The Real McCoy Ferry shuttles cars between Rio Vista and Ryer Island by way of the Cache Slough.
The 88,000-pound vessel is considered an extension of State Highway 84 and is capable of carrying eight cars at a time.
The ferry operates around the clock, every 20 minutes, with crossings scheduled at the top of every hour, 20 minutes after the hour and 40 minutes after the hour.
