Power outage: PG&E moving forward with Solano County PSPS
870 residents of rural Solano County are affected by tonight's planned power outage.
The Pacific Gas & Electric Company is moving forward with planned power outages for more than 50,000 customers throughout Northern California.
In Solano County, around 870 rural residents are expected to lose electrical power after 6 p.m. tonight. Service may not resume until Friday morning, the utility warned.
The move is part of a strategy known as a planned safety power shutoff or PSPS that is enforced when forecasters predict weather conditions could contribute to the rapid start and spread of wildfires. The strategy was created after aging PG&E equipment was blamed for several destructive and deadly wildfires during similar weather events in recent years.
This week’s power shutoff event is occurring during a Red Flag Warning that covers all of Solano County and other areas of Northern California. Weather forecasters say gusty wind coupled with low humidity and warm temperatures will cause wildfires that start between Wednesday and Friday morning to spread rapidly.
PG&E says 871 customers in Solano County will be affected by Wednesday’s planned power outage. Affected residents and businesses are located east of the Napa-Solano county line and west of rural Fairfield and Suisun City.
