More than 1,000 Pacific Gas & Electric (PG&E) customers were without electrical power in Fairfield after a balloon became tangled in a power line on Wednesday.
That outage was sourced to the 1900 block of Phoenix Drive where a Mylar balloon made contact with a power line, causing a transformer explosion. The explosion generated sparks that resulted in minor fire damage to the roof of a nearby home.
By 3 p.m., the outage had grown to affect more than 1,000 homes and businesses, PG&E’s outage map showed.
Power was restored to most homes by 7:30 p.m.
A PG&E crew was assigned to restore power, and the utility company says it is continuing to investigate the circumstances behind the outage.
