Police have released new details about a crash that claimed the life of a teenager and injured two others near Dixon last night.
The crash happened around 9:45 p.m. along a stretch of Tremont Road in unincorporated Solano County. Solano NewsNet was the first to report on the incident as it unfolded Saturday evening.
Authorities with the California Highway Patrol say an 18-year-old male who was driving a Ford Mustang made an unsafe turning movement, which caused the vehicle to overturn several times before resting in a field off the roadway.
Dispatches reviewed by Solano NewsNet indicated the driver of the vehicle was ejected into the field. He was located by a responding CHP officer, and life-saving measures were immediately started.
Despite their best efforts, the driver was declared deceased at the scene. Police say he was not wearing a seat belt when the crash happened.
Another passenger who was not identified by name or age sustained major injuries and was transported to a trauma center in Sacramento. Two other passengers, who were identified as underage, were taken to a hospital in Vacaville with major injuries; Solano NewsNet understands one of those underage passengers was airlifted by a CHP helicopter.
Police say they believe alcohol impairment was a factor in the crash. Anyone who may have witnessed the incident or have other information to provide about those involved is urged to contact the California Highway Patrol’s Solano County office at 707-428-2100.
