The Fairfield Police Department on Tuesday said it would offer a reward of $10,000 for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or people responsible for a deadly hit-and-run incident last week.
Just before 11 p.m. on October 22, police responded to the area of Cement Hill Road and Laurel Creek Park for a report of a woman who was laying in the roadway. When officers arrived, the found 81-year-old Namie Stewart from Fairfield had been hit by a vehicle, the police agency said.
Stewart was pronounced dead at an area hospital a short time later.
In an interview with KOVR-TV (Channel 13), Stewart’s family said the woman had just celebrated her birthday before the crash. Her daughter, Cora Stewart, described the woman as energetic and full of life who often went on walks during random parts of the day and night.
“She was found on the side of the road,” Cora Stewart said. “That, in itself, it’s not so much the she is gone that saddens me, it’s thew ay she was left and how she died by herself.”
The police department has had little luck tracking down the driver or other individuals responsible for her death. They’re now offering a $10,000 reward to anyone who provides information that leads to both an arrest and a conviction in the case.
Those with information are urged to call Fairfield Police Department Sgt. Matt Thomas at 707-428-7524.
