An errant report of a burglary at the home of Vacaville’s former police chief and current mayor drew a sizable law enforcement response to his neighborhood on Wednesday.
The incident started around 7:30 p.m. when police received a call from a resident who reported a trespasser inside the garage of Mayor John Carli, according to information learned by Solano NewsNet.
Police cleared the garage and the inside of the home, but did not locate a trespasser. Law enforcement eventually determined the report was based on surveillance video associated with a camera that had no connection to the mayor’s home.
The mayor was not home at the time of the incident.
Carli served with the Vacaville Police Department for more than three decades, rising to the rank of police chief, a title he held until his retirement in 2021. He was elected to a four-year term as Vacaville’s mayor in November 2022.
