A two-vehicle crash in rural Solano County triggered an investigation into a stolen pick-up truck, Solano NewsNet has learned.
The crash was reported by the California Highway Patrol late Wednesday evening in the area of Meridian Road and McCroy Road east of Vacaville.
Officers on the scene located a Toyota Avalon that crashed into a ditch after it made contact with a Ford pick-up truck.
It was not clear if anyone was injured in the crash.
During their investigation into what happened, the CHP contacted the Vacaville Police Department with information that indicated the pick-up truck may have been stolen. They requested officers contact the registered owner of the vehicle at their home in central Vacaville to see if they knew where their car was.
An officer contacted the resident, who stated that they did not know their truck was missing, according to early-morning dispatches reviewed by Solano NewsNet. Police have now opened a stolen vehicle investigation.
The driver of the pick-up truck was detained at the scene of the crash. According to court records, the driver was on probation for an earlier DUI offense.
