Police chase starts in Solano County, ends in San Francisco
What started as an attempt by California Highway Patrol officers to stop a stolen vehicle in Fairfield ended with a traffic collision in San Francisco on Thursday.
At 6:50 p.m., CHP officers received an alert from an automated license plate reader along Interstate 80 in Fairfield of a stolen Porsche being driven by an unknown individual. Officers spotted the driver along Business Center Drive and attempted to pull the car over.
The driver took off, leading CHP officers on a chase that spanned three counties over the course of 30 minutes.
During the chase, officers said the driver was speeding in excess of 100 miles per hour along westbound Interstate 80. The driver didn’t slow down when they crossed the Carquinez Bridge and San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge, officers said.
The pursuit ended around 7:30 p.m. when the driver crashed along Interstate 80 near 7th Street in San Francisco. The driver was arrested shortly after the collision.
