A wild high-speed police chase that started in Fairfield on Monday ended with the arrest of at least one carjacking suspect in the Bay Area.
The chase started around 9:30 p.m. when officers with the California Highway Patrol spotted a vehicle associated with a carjacking in Oakland.
The pursuit was on after the suspect failed to stop for police during an attempted yield on Airbase Parkway in Fairfield.
The suspect jumped onto the westbound portion of Interstate 80 and took off, with speeds reaching over 120 miles per hour at times.
Police attempted to spike the tires of the pursued vehicle just before it crossed over the Carquinez Bridge in Vallejo, but the attempt was unsuccessful, according to dispatches reviewed by Solano NewsNet.
The chase continued for a half-hour before the driver abandoned the car along the 1000 block of 62nd Street in Oakland. A California Highway Patrol airplane directed Oakland police officers to the suspect’s exact location, and he was taken into custody without further incident.
Two other people who were inside the car fled just before the driver was taken into custody. Their whereabouts were not known as of Monday evening.
