A wild high-speed police pursuit that spanned two counties ended with a crash near Vacaville.
The pursuit started around 11 p.m. in Vacaville when police attempted to pull over the driver of a rental car for an unknown traffic violation.
The driver failed to yield to lights and sirens, taking off from police and eventually hitting the east-bound lanes of Interstate 80.
Assisted by the California Highway Patrol, Vacaville police gave chase through several cities. At one point, the pursuit played out along city streets in West Sacramento before the driver turned around and got back onto west-bound lanes of the freeway.
The suspect struck a set of spike strips in West Sacramento, blowing out the front-left tire of the vehicle. Despite losing a tire, the pursuit continued through Yolo County, with speeds hitting over 90 miles per hour at times.
The chase ended when the suspect hit a second set of spike strips in Vacaville, then crashed along west-bound Interstate 80 near Cherry Glen Road.
One person was taken into custody after the chase ended. It was not clear if the driver was injured. His identity was unknown at press time.
As of midnight, police were still along the freeway processing the scene of the crime.
