Planet Fitness is rebooting its summer workout program for teenagers, allowing high school-age students to exercise at their clubs for free starting later this month.
The High School Summer Pass, formerly known as the Teen Summer Challenge, allows anyone between the ages of 14 to 19 years old to get a free membership at any Planet Fitness location during their summer break.
The free exercise initiative starts May 16 and lasts until August 31. Planet Fitness said those under the age of 18 will need a parent or guardian to assist with their enrollment, but do not need an adult present to sign in or exercise at the club.
Although the program is geared toward high schoolers, anyone between the ages of 14 and 19 is eligible to participate in the program. Those who do take advantage of the High School Summer Pass will be automatically enrolled to receive a chance at winning a $500 or $5,000 scholarship that can be used toward academic or athletic programs.
The health and wellness company said a recent study it commissioned found healthy habits like regular exercise helped teenagers cope during the two-year coronavirus pandemic.
“As the leader in fitness, we believe we have a responsibility to provide a welcoming, safe, and Judgement Free environment for high school students to improve their physical and mental wellness, particularly given the challenges they have and continue to face in the wake of the pandemic,” Chris Rondeau, the Chief Executive Officer of Planet Fitness, said in a statement. “Our hope is that High School Summer Pass empowers teens to create life-long workout habits to help them succeed in every aspect of their lives.”
Planet Fitness offers three locations in Solano County, all of which are participating in the High School Summer Pass. The Planet Fitness locations in Solano County are:
2525 North Texas Street (Mission Village) in Fairfield
154 Browns Valley Parkway (near the Nugget) in Vacaville

Teens can only work out at the location where they enrolled. Parents are not required to have a Planet Fitness membership, though they can sign up for one starting at $10 a month.
