A military physician stationed at Travis Air Force Base and serving a tour of duty overseas was killed in a non-combat related incident on Friday, defense officials confirmed this weekend.
Captain Kelliann Leli, 30, died from injuries sustained in a vehicle crash in the United Arab Emirates, base officials said.
Details about the crash were scarce, and military officials said the incident remains under investigation.
Capt. Leli had been attached to the 60th Medical Group at David Grant Medical Center, the hospital located at Travis Air Force Base near Fairfield since 2016. She was from New Jersey.
“Our entire Travis family is beyond heartbroken over the tragic loss of our teammate, Kelliann,” Colonel Corey Simmons, the commander of the 60th Air Mobility Wing, said in a press release e-mailed to reporters on Saturday.
Her tour of duty in the United Arab Emirates, a country located near Saudi Arabia, was her first overseas deployment, officials said.
