The Pacific Gas & Electric Company (PG&E) revised its planned safety power shutoff (PSPS) event on Wednesday, removing hundreds of customers from the event who were earlier told they may lose power.
This week, PG&E said around 52,000 customers could lose power due to weather conditions that forecasters said would lead to the quick start and rapid spread of wildfires.
Around 50 rural Solano County customers who live near the Napa County line far west of Fairfield were warned that they were among thousands of customers who could lose power if weather conditions did not improve.
On Wednesday, PG&E removed Solano County and three other counties from the list of areas affected by a forthcoming PSPS event, which is still expected to start on Thursday for other parts of Northern California. The removal means rural Solano County customers will not lose power as expected, according to the agency.
PG&E’s equipment has been blamed for the start of several destructive wildfires in recent years. Last year, the utility company began deliberately shutting off power in areas prone to wildfires.
The utility was criticized for not warning customers ahead of planned power outages last year. PG&E officials say they’ve worked hard over the last few months to notify customers well in advance of a planned power outage.
