The Pacific Gas & Electric Company (PG&E) quietly launched a new Internet-accessible camera this week that offers a view of the Suisun Valley.
The camera was installed as part of PG&E’s wildfire mitigation initiative in partnership with Alert Wildfire, a project operated through a consortium of three universities in California, Nevada and Oregon.
The pan, tilt and zoom camera will allow officials and the public to spot wildfires and other weather-related phenomenon in the Suisun Valley north of the Cordelia area of Fairfield. It is installed along Abernathy Road just north of Rockville Road, according to a map published on the Alert Wildfire website.
When moved, the camera can focus on several areas in Solano County, including Green Valley, Cordelia, Suisun City, Fairfield and the delta along with portions of Vallejo, Benicia and Vacaville.
The new camera can be accessed by clicking or tapping here.
Six other cameras offer views of Solano County, including two cameras atop Mount Vaca, two cameras installed on Atlas Peak near Lake Berryessa, a camera installed on the hills adjacent to Peña Adobe in Vacaville, and one camera on Sugarloaf Ridge in Napa County’s Skyline Wilderness Park.
