A stretch of Peabody Road has re-opened in rural Vacaville after a fire broke out near the California State Prison on Wednesday.
The fire was reported in the grassy hill parallel to Peabody Road around 9 a.m., bringing in fire crews from Vacaville, rural Solano County and CAL FIRE.
Forward progress on the fire was stopped about 15 minutes after it ignited. The blaze charred around 5 acres, according to a fire dispatch. Fire crews are expected to be present in the area throughout the morning as they extinguish hot spots on the hills there.
The Vacaville Police Department said the fire briefly triggered the evacuation of animals at the nearby SPCA Shelter, but that evacuation was eventually halted after the fire was brought under control.
Peabody Road was shut down in both directions, with traffic re-routed to Foxboro Parkway and Vanden Road. All lanes of Peabody Road had re-opened to traffic as of noon.
There was no information on what started the blaze.
