The California Department of Transportation (CalTrans) wants motorists to be aware of a pair of road closures that will impact traffic along Interstate 80 near Red Top Road this week.
The dual closures will start Wednesday when construction crews shut down the east-bound lanes of freeway traffic between Red Top Road and Lopes Road.
Motorists traveling through Fairfield are asked to exit Interstate 80 onto east-bound Interstate 780, then switch to north-bound Interstate 680 in Benicia. Local traffic will be forced to exit onto Red Top Road, then turn onto Lopes Road where they will be able to re-join Interstate 80.
Wednesday’s closure starts at 10 p.m. and lasts until Thursday at 6 a.m.
On Thursday, the situation will be reversed, with construction crews closing the west-bound lanes of traffic on the freeway.
During the closure, motorists traveling through Vallejo will be asked to exit onto south-bound Interstate 680, then merge onto west-bound Interstate 780 until they re-join Interstate 80 in Vallejo.
The road closure on Thursday starts at 11 p.m. and lasts until Friday at 4 a.m.
CalTrans says motorists should expect delays on both days of construction. Travelers can look up real-time traffic information on the CalTrans QuickMap by clicking or tapping here.
The construction is part of an ongoing interchange improvement project affecting Interstate 80, Interstate 680 and State Highway 12.
