One person was taken into custody following a high-speed pursuit through several neighborhoods in Fairfield and Suisun City early Saturday morning.
The chase started before midnight when the California Highway Patrol engaged in a pursuit with the driver of a dark-colored Acura Integra. It was not immediately clear why the CHP wanted the driver to pull over, but at one point during the pursuit, officers believe they spotted the driver tossing an object — possibly a handgun — into the median of the freeway.
Fairfield police officers were notified of the chase when the driver exited the freeway using the Air Base Parkway off ramp. Fairfield officers followed the vehicle from a distance but chose not to pursue, instead allowing the car to be tracked overhead by a CHP helicopter pilot.
At one point during the chase, the suspect drove the wrong way down Walters Road at a high rate of speed before correcting onto Bella Vista Drive.
Around 12:10 a.m., the suspect ditched the vehicle in front of a home along Bobolink Court in Suisun City. A patrol officer from Fairfield arrived on the scene a short time later and took the suspect into custody without further incident.
Police were still processing the scene of where the chase ended as of 12:30 a.m. The identity of the driver was not available as of early Saturday morning.
