Fire officials are investigating a grass fire in Suisun City as a likely case of arson.
The fire broke out early Thursday afternoon in an empty field near the corner of West Street and Morgan Street.
The wind-whipped fire was quickly escalated to a two-alarm response after fire crews determined it was burning dangerously close to a group of homes.
Fire personnel from Cordelia, Fairfield and Travis Air Force Base were dispatched to assist with the blaze.
An eyewitness to the fire told police they believed it might have been started by an individual wearing all black clothing. Around 3 p.m., a person fitting that description was detained along the railroad tracks near the scene of the blaze.
The person was taken into custody after police learned the suspect had at least one outstanding warrant for failure to appear in a criminal case. The suspect also had a record for possession of explosives, according to dispatches reviewed by Solano NewsNet. Their identity was not known as of Thursday evening.
