Recreation officials in Vacaville say a mountain lion was spotted at a city park earlier this week.
Vacaville’s Parks and Recreation agency said the animal was sighted at Peña Adobe Park on Tuesday, October 13.
It is the second such sighting in Solano County in recent weeks. Last month, a Fairfield resident spotted a mountain lion lounging in the backyard of their home.
Wildlife officials believe the increased number of sightings may be related to wildfires that moved through rural Solano County and nearby areas over the last few months.
A Vacaville Parks and Recreation official said mountain lion sightings are not uncommon in Northern California, and attacks on humas are rare.
Officials say individuals who encounter a mountain lion should not run away from the animal. Instead, they urge people to stay alert, remain in place and make loud noises to scare the animal off.
