City officials in Benicia say a mosquito abatement campaign is scheduled to take place on Friday.
The abatement will occur within the Benicia State Recreation Area, officials said in a social media post.
The event will involve a helicopter dropping dry pellets the size of a pencil eraser across more than five dozen acres of land within the park.
The park will be closed for around 20 minutes while the helicopter drops the pellets, which is scheduled to take place around 9 a.m., officials said.
“The slow-release pellets will inhibit hatching and growth of mosquitos in water,” a city spokesperson wrote in a statement. “Mosquitos contribute to the spread of West Nile Virus and other illnesses to humans and animals. We are told that the pellets are not harmful to fish [or] wildlife.”
Residents who have questions about the pellet drop event are asked to contact the Solano County Mosquito Abatement District at 707-437-1116.
