More than 1,800 teachers, administrators and other educators received the first round of a COVID-19 vaccine last week, according to the Solano Public Health Office.
The vaccines were distributed at a school employee event that prioritized teachers and other educators who are employed at schools that have transitioned into an in-person or hybrid learning environment, officials said.
“This is a critical step in helping us expand our current in-person instruction and support for our students,” a spokesperson for the Solano County Office of Education wrote in a social media post on Monday. “Many of our students are medically fragile, and vaccinations will help us ensure the health and safety of these vulnerable students as well as the staff who love and serve them.”
Twenty percent of the county’s educators received the vaccine last week, according to information provided by county officials and reported by KRON-TV (Channel 4). The Office of Education said all special education department employees received the first round of the shot last week.
It wasn’t clear when the second dose of the COVID-19 vaccine would be offered, though health officials typically require a second dose to be administered within a few weeks.
The Solano Public Health Office said it would continue to offer the vaccine to educators in phases as supplies increased over the coming weeks and months.
