A bridge that connects Mare Island to the City of Vallejo is still unable to lift in order to allow boats to travel along the Napa River because of “ongoing mechanical issues” that are the result of an electrical malfunction, the City of Vallejo said on Friday.
The bridge has experienced issues for several weeks, when city officials decided to keep it in the “down” position to allow for pedestrians and motorists to cross.
On May 24, the City said it expected the problem to be fixed by the end of May. On Friday, the City told Solano NewsNet the problem will remain for some time because the bridge’s electrical system uses “obsolete parts” that make it difficult to repair.
One of those parts arrived this week, a city spokesperson said, and other parts needed for the repair are expected to arrive in the coming weeks. Once the bridge is repaired, city officials will inspect it “for any mechanical and structural issues” that may have been caused by the fix, a spokesperson affirmed.
The bridge was constructed in 1934.
