An unusual incident on Wednesday resulted in emergency medical crews being deployed twice to a stretch of railroad tracks in Fairfield.
Just after midnight, officials with Union Pacific called emergency dispatchers to report a person who had been struck by a passing train and was wedged in-between two cars.
Firefighters and police from Fairfield and Suisun City were dispatched to the incident near the intersection of Beck Avenue and Cordelia Road, but when officers and medics arrived, they were unable to locate the injured person.
Union Pacific employees later told police that the injured person had managed to free himself from the train and walked away from the scene prior to their arrival. Police conducted a brief search of the area but were ultimately unable to locate the injured person.
Train service was disrupted for a short period on Wednesday while police and firefighters worked to piece together exactly what happened.
Two hours after the initial call, Fairfield medics were sent back to the same area after railroad employees reported the injured person had returned to the scene. This time, the victim was attended to by a medical crew and ultimately transported to an area hospital by ambulance.
The extent of the person’s injuries was not known, nor was it clear why he was on the train tracks. No other information was available as of early Wednesday morning.
