A Fairfield man wanted in connection with a weekend shooting has turned himself in, police said on Tuesday.
The suspect, identified as 18-year-old James Williams, surrendered to police on Tuesday and is in custody at the Solano County jail, authorities affirmed.
Earlier, police said Williams was involved in the shooting of a teenager on Easter Sunday. The shooting happened around 4:30 p.m. along the 1000 block of Broadway Street.
The victim, identified by family members as Daniel Hughes, was rushed to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries. He remains in critical condition at the hospital, police said.
Since Sunday, speculation has been rampant on social media over the condition of the victim, with some Facebook and Twitter users erroneously reporting that the victim had died. On Tuesday, Fairfield police official asked their Facebook followers to stop spreading misinformation.
The family of the victim said they’ve also seen information floating around on social media about the circumstances of the shooting.
“We understand there is information being spread, and people are talking,” Hughes’ family wrote. “We need you to talk to the police and not with each other.”
Hughes’ family is asking anyone with information to contact Fairfield Police Detective Joseph Viergutz at 707-428-7365.
