Lake Curry exceeds spill stage, evacuation warning remains

Lake Curry in Napa County exceeded its spill stage on Thursday, and is expected to begin pouring excess water into its designated spillway this week.

The scenario is one that county officials anticipated several days ago based on weather forecasts that called for a significant amount of rain. An evacuation warning remains in place for parts of Mankas County and Rockville in rural Solano County, and Cordelia in incorporated Fairfield.

The evacuation warning includes a stretch of Suisun Valley Road at Ledgewood Road and Morisson Lane, and parts of Rockville Road, Suisun Parkway and Cordelia Road.

Officials say they are concerned that water discharged from Lake Curry could trigger flooding as it pours into Suisun Creek. Debris in the water could clog up storm drains and other pathways, causing localized flooding.

In a statement on Thursday, the Solano County Office of Emergency Services said the region is seeing a brief break in the rain, but a storm expected to hit over the weekend is likely to trigger “minor to moderate impacts” from Friday through next Monday.

“With the grounds already saturated, there may be ponding of water and roadway flooding as rains return tomorrow through the weekend,” a spokesperson for the agency said.

The National Weather Service in Sacramento has issued a Flood Watch that covers much of Solano County from Saturday, January 14 at 10 a.m. until Sunday, January 15 at 7 a.m.
