A Solano County jury has convicted a local man on three counts related to child sex crimes, the county’s prosecutor said on Wednesday.
Enrique Mejia-Picazo faces more than 40 years in prison after the jury returned a guilty verdict on two counts of aggravated sex assault of a child and one count of continuous child sex abuse.
Police say Mejia-Picazo moved to a residence in Solano County several years ago with his then-girlfriend and their 12-year-old daughter. After moving to the community, Mejia-Picazo began sexually assaulting his daughter, something that “occurred over an extensive period of time,” prosecutors said.
He eventually escalated the abuse by using violent acts to coerce his daughter into compliance, prosecutors said. He was arrested after the child told an adult relative about what was happening.
Mejia-Picazo’s daughter was one of several people to testify against him at his trial, prosecutors said. Former Detective Robert Greenberg, who investigated the incident for the Vallejo Police Department, also testified against him.
Mejia-Picazo is scheduled to be sentenced on June 17.
Prosecutors say anyone who is a victim of sexual assault should contact the Crime Victim’s Assistance hotline at 707-784-6827 or the Family Justice Center at 707-784-7635. Those who are experiencing an emergency should call 9-1-1.
