A Solano County judge has ordered a medical evaluation and competency report for a Placer County woman accused of murdering Vacaville Police Officer Matthew Bowen earlier this month.
At the second part of her arraignment on Monday, Judge Jeffrey Kaufmann ordered the matter to be continued to August in order to give the woman, 24-year-old Serena Rodriguez, enough time to be examined by a doctor.
County prosecutors charged Rodriguez with murder last week in connection with a crash that killed Vacaville Police Officer Matthew Bowen. Prosecutors claim Rodriguez intentionally struck Bowen with her vehicle while he was on a traffic stop nearly two weeks ago.
Bowen’s funeral is scheduled for Tuesday. The ceremony will be closed to the public, but a live stream will be available through the City of Vacaville’s YouTube channel. A procession will take place around 12:30 p.m., and members of the public are invited to show their support by lining the procession route, which will wind through several Vacaville streets.
