There will be no shortage of places to follow state and national election results once the polls close in California at 8 p.m., but where do you turn to if you want coverage of local races in Solano County?
Though the presidential election will no doubt take center stage on local and cable news channels, there is a lot at stake locally, too — from city council races to local ballot initiatives on social and economic issues at home. Some of these races will be covered by local news organizations throughout Tuesday night and into the rest of the week, while results for others can be found in a handful of places online.
Here’s a handy guide to following the election results in Solano County:
Solano County Registrar of Voters Webpage
The Solano County Registrar of Voters webpage will be collating city- and county-based election results shortly after the polls close Tuesday at 8 p.m.
The County has launched a special web portal for reporting city and county-based races at LiveVoterTurnout.com. The webpage can be accessed on desktop computers, smartphones and tablets alike.
A downloadable PDF of election results is also available at the Registrar of Voters’ website at SolanoCounty.com.
Election results are expected to be updated across several hours Tuesday and through the rest of the week, with sporadic updates until ballots are counted in full and the election results certified. Certified election results are not expected for several weeks, which is consistent with prior election cycles.
KXTV Channel 10
For areas of Solano County that are in the Sacramento-Stockton TV market (including Fairfield, Vacaville, Dixon, portions of Rio Vista and north rural Solano County), ABC affiliate KXTV Channel 10 (“ABC10”) will be streaming a local election night special on Facebook and YouTube from 7 p.m. until 10:30 p.m., with another stream at 11 p.m. for the station’s late local newscast.
The station’s coverage can be streamed on phones, tablets, computers or any smart TV that is compatible with either the YouTube or Facebook Watch apps. Just search for “ABC10” on YouTube or “ABC10TV” on Facebook Watch.
KPIX Channel 5
For areas of Solano County that are in the San Francisco TV market (including Vallejo, Benicia, portions of Rio Vista and south rural Solano County), CBS station KPIX-TV Channel 5 will be streaming local news coverage on CBSN Bay Area starting around 6:30 p.m. and lasting through the station’s late night newscast at 11 p.m.
CBSN Bay Area is available through the free CBS News app for smartphones, tablets and smart TVs as well as Pluto TV (look under the new “local” tab). You can also watch CBSN Bay Area on a PC or Mac by clicking or tapping here.
KCBS Radio
If you can’t watch election results on TV (or don’t want to), you can still follow along in real-time on traditional radio. San Francisco’s All News station KCBS (740 AM, 106.9 FM) will be carrying live, local coverage of Northern California races in the Bay Area, including Solano County, once the polls close at 8 p.m. and will incorporate updates from national races throughout the night.
To listen, simply tune your radio to 740 AM (best in north Solano County) or 106.9 FM (best in south Solano County) starting at 8 p.m. If you have a smartphone or tablet, you can also stream via the free Radio.com app for iOS or Android devices. If you have a Google Home or Amazon Echo device, just ask the Google Assistant or Alexa to “play K-C-B-S Radio” and it will stream the station for free.
Newsy
Last, if you want to follow state and national races, there’s Newsy, a no-fills streaming news station that promises to provide facts-first live news updates free from opinion or agenda.
Newsy is available as a live stream on Comcast’s X1 platform as well as streaming TV services Philo, Sling TV and YouTube TV. A free aggregated service is also available on Pluto TV, Xumo TV, Samsung TV Plus, Stirr, the Roku Channel, Haystack News and TiVo Plus. And there’s dedicated Newsy apps for iOS, Android, Apple TV, Android TV, Google TV, Roku and Amazon Fire TV with support for Google’s Chromecast on mobile devices.
