Forecasters with the National Weather Service have issued a High Wind Watch for all of Solano County and other areas of Northern Californis starting late Sunday evening.
According to a weather bulletin published on Friday, a significant coastal wind event is expected to start toward the end of the weekend and will bring heavy wind gusts throughout the region until the middle of next week.
Northernly to easternly winds are expected to start Sunday night around 10 p.m. and accelerate through the start of the week into Tuesday morning.
“At this point, the strongest valley winds are expected Monday afternoon and evening, with stronger mountain winds Tuesday,” the bulletin said.
In the valley, wind speeds of up to 35 miles per hour are expected — enough to cause power outages and downed trees in areas. Local gusts of up to 50 miles per hour are possible at times, especially in higher terrain.
In the foothills and the mountains, the wind is expected to be worse, with sustained wind between 30 and 40 mile per hour gusting up to 70 miles per hour in places, forecasters said.
The High Wind Watch starts Sunday at 10 p.m. and lasts until Tuesday at 11 p.m.
