A beloved Vacaville Police Department volunteer died this week, the agency confirmed in a statement on Friday.
Gus Alevras, 85, worked as a volunteer with the Vacaville Police Department from 2007 to 2016, logging more than 10,000 volunteer hours with the agency before stepping away.
He was often joined at community events by his partner Shirley and “served just about every unit in our department,” an agency spokesperson wrote. He was honored with a Volunteer of the Year award during his time with the volunteer unit of the police department.
Before volunteering, Alevras worked for the Sheet Metal Workers union and owned his own heating and air conditioning business.
He is survived by his three daughters and one son.
