Congressman John Garamendi will hold a virtual town hall this week to discuss elements of the “American Rescue Plan,” an economic stimulus and relief package that was passed last week to offset and overcome the effects of the ongoing coronavirus health pandemic.
The blockbuster $1.9 trillion package provides a one-time direct payment of $1,400 to most Americans along with federal funding to accelerate vaccinations, re-open schools and provide relief to small businesses. The package was approved by Congress last Wednesday; President Joe Biden signed the measure into law one day later.
“As we grieve the 500,000 lives lost to this terrible virus, we must continue to fight for our communities,” Garamendi wrote in an editorial published by Solano NewsNet last week. “With the passage of the American Rescue Plan, we have come one step closer to building back our economy better than before, putting children safely back in schools, and ramping up vaccine production and distribution.”
On Tuesday, Garamendi will hold a virtual town hall via Zoom to discuss various ways the American Rescue Plan will help individuals and businesses within the communities he represents in Congress, which includes the majority of Solano County except Vallejo and Benicia.
“Garamendi helped secure millions in much-needed funding in the package for local health care, schools, essential services like firefighting and public safety, and financial relief for those impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic,” a statement from the Congressman’s office read on Monday.
The virtual town hall will take place Tuesday evening at 6 p.m local time. Registration is required in order to attend the town hall, and those interested in attending can RSVP by clicking or tapping here.
Garamendi will also set aside time to take questions from constituents, and participants can send their questions in advance by clicking or tapping here.
