A private memorial for fallen Vacaville Police Officer Matthew Bowen has been tentatively scheduled for Tuesday, July 23, Solano NewsNet has learned.
The date was communicated by a Vacaville police official with knowledge of the plan, who said that the ceremony will be closed to the public due to space limitations. It was later confirmed by the police department itself, shortly after this article was first published. The agency does not send press releases or community announcements to Solano NewsNet, despite numerous requests.
The memorial will be held at the Father’s House around 10:30 a.m., and will be closed to the public. A live stream of the funeral will be available on the City of Vacaville’s YouTube page.
Members of the public have been invited to line the route of the funeral procession, which will start around 1 p.m. at the Father’s House and wind through several city streets before finishing at the Vacaville Elmira Cemetery.
Bowen was killed last Thursday while conducting a traffic stop in the area of Leisure Town Road and Orange Drive. The alleged driver of the vehicle that struck Bowen, identified as 24-year-old Serena Rodriguez of Auburn, has been charged with murder.
The last memorial held in Vacaville was for fallen California Highway Patrol Officer Kirk Griess, who was struck by a vehicle while conducting a traffic stop in 2018.
