Portions of north Solano County will be placed under a Freeze Warning starting early Monday morning, the National Weather Service’s Sacramento official said.
The weather alert comes as a cold front continues to move across Northern California, which will bring lower-than-average temperatures throughout the week.
In Vacaville, the overnight low from Sunday evening into Monday morning could dip to around 30 degrees, according to meteorologists with the commercial forecasting service AccuWeather.
Portions of Solano County north of Fairfield have been placed under a Freeze Warning by the National Weather Service from Monday at 3 a.m. until 9 a.m. The warning also includes all of neighboring Yolo County.
The weather agency said precautions should be taken to protect sensitive infrastructure, livestock and plants from the cold, including:
Bringing weather sensitive plants indoors where possible;
Allowing outdoor pets to come inside for the evening;
Ensuring livestock have adequate shelter and warmth;
Draining and wrapping any outdoor pipes, or allowing pipes to drip if draining is not possible; and
Covering above-ground pipes to prevent them from freezing.
“Frost and freeze conditions will kill crops, other sensitive vegetation and possibly damage unprotected outdoor plumbing,” forecasters said.
Motorists who wake up to frosted car windows should avoid pouring warm or hot water directly onto the glass. The rapid change in temperature caused by pouring hot liquid can cause the glass to crack or shatter.
Instead, mix one-third parts cold or lukewarm water with two-thirds part isopropyl or rubbing alcohol, and slowly pour the mixture onto the windshield, ensuring the solution doesn’t come into contact with the car’s paint.
Cold temperatures are expected to remain in Solano County throughout the rest of the week, and forecasters say there is a decent chance of rain for the area starting on Friday.
