Former Garamendi media aide tapped to lead Governor's press office

A former press aid for local Congressman John Garamendi has been appointed to the top communications position within the Governor’s office in Sacramento.
Daniel Lopez, 42, of Sacramento was appointed to the role of Press Secretary in the Office of the Governor on Wednesday, according to an announcement sent to reporters.
Lopez served as a press aide to Garamendi during his time as lieutenant governor from 2007 to 2008 the announcement said. He went on to work as an aide to former Sacramento Mayor Kevin Johnson before working as a public information officer for Stockton Mayor Michael Tubbs.
Lopez was also chief of staff for Dr. Richard Pan, a California state senator, the announcement said. In addition to his civic work, Lopez was briefly employed as an administrative coordinator at Facebook.
The appointment to the press secretary role takes immediate effect.
