Don Erickson, the former mayor of Dixon who pushed for more commercialism and industrialism in the city while at the same time preserving the region’s agricultural presence, died while visiting a relative over the Thanksgiving Day holiday.
Erickson was 84 and apparently suffered a heart attack, according to a news report.
After attending dentistry school, Erickson enrolled in the U.S. Air Force, according to an obituary published on Thursday. He opened a dental office after being discharged from the military, then worked for Cool Patch Pumpkins after his career retirement.
He served with the city’s local government from the mid-1990s to the early 2000s, including a term as Dixon’s first-elected mayor, a news report said.
Erickson’s wife Marcia passed away earlier this year.
