A large unidentified aircraft flying over the sky of Solano County caught the attention of military officials at Travis Air Force Base and other local authorities in cities and towns throughout the region.
Military radar equipment first picked up the aircraft in Vallejo around 9 p.m. Thursday evening. Officials tracked the aircraft through several communities before it exited into neighboring Yolo County about an hour later.
“We see the same thing every year,” Capt. Christopher S. Cringle, an official at Travis Air Force Base, said during a phone interview. “It makes tens of thousands of stops throughout the region before it moves on to neighboring counties.”
The aircraft appears to be associated with a heavyset man wearing a red and white suit who has an affinity for cookies and milk. He is often accompanied by eight or nine reindeer, one of which has a large, red beacon on the front of its face.
Several notes were recovered from homes associated with the man’s various stops throughout the night. The notes accompanied packages that were wrapped in decorative paper; a source said the man, who signed his name as “Santa,” said the gifts were for good children who studied hard, at all their vegetables and were in bed by 10 p.m. on school nights.
“He seems to brings a lot of joy to people around this time of the year,” Capt. Cringle said. “We’ll continue to keep an eye on things.”
Merry Christmas.
