Ready or not, the heat is coming back.
Hot weather is set to return to Solano County and the rest of the Sacramento valley on Wednesday, with triple-digit temperatures expected in Dixon, Vacaville and Rio Vista.
The hottest days are expected on Thursday and Friday, triggered by a high pressure ridge pushing to the east, meteorologists with the National Weather Service said in a bulletin published Tuesday evening.
Unlike with the last heat wave, forecasters are not predicting widespread thunderstorm activity this time around, though the occasional storm could pop up in the higher elevations, meteorologists said.
That means Solano County will be plagued with heat for several days until the weekend, with little relief in sight. Thankfully, the forecast is not calling for temperatures as hot as the previous heatwave, when the thermometer reached well over 110 degrees in some areas.
As of Tuesday evening, the weather office had not issued an Excessive Heat Watch or a similar advisory for any portion of the region.
That said, the state’s energy manager, California ISO (CAISO) issued a proactive Flex Alert for Wednesday, urging residents and businesses in the state to reduce their energy consumption between the peak hours of 4 p.m. and 9 p.m.
“With higher than normal temperatures in the forecast for parts of interior Northern California, the power grid operator is predicting an increase in electricity demand, primarily from air conditioning use,” a spokesperson for CAISO said in a press release. “The increase can make electricity supplies tight and cause strain on our power grid.”
Additional Flex Alerts may be issued throughout the week as conditions warrant.
